Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
This is a history ride to visit and learn facts about various historic and interesting sites around Lake Union. We will meet at the east end of the parking lot at Gas Works Park (2101 N Northlake Way, Seattle, WA 98103). Bicycle access is just off the Burke-Gilman Trail across the street. Parking can be found in the adjacent parking lot. Transit access includes biking from the Link light rail station at UW (2 miles away) or biking from King County Metro Bus routes 31 and 62 a few blocks away.
We will first head east towards Montlake before heading around Portage Bay and the east side of Lake Union before taking a restroom and break stop at the Center for Wooden Boats. We will board the Virginia V steam boat for a little bit before riding around parts of South Lake Union. Then, we will head north along the west side of Lake Union to Fremont, cross the bridge, and ride back to the finish. There are a total of 14 stops on this ride during which the ride leader will give a few details about the history/geography/etc.
Please note: due to all the starts/stops, this ride is expected to last around 4-5 hours.
Please arrive 30 minutes prior to the ride start (i.e. arrive at 8:30). Please sign the electronic waiver by creating a free account on the Cascade website. Please bring basic tools (extra tubes, patch kit, etc.) as well as water and snacks, as it may be warm that day. Have a back-up plan in case you are unable to finish (friend/family who can pick you up, ORCA card to use public transit).
You are encouraged to pre-register by clicking the red "Register Now" button above. There is no need to unregister if you decide not to ride.
Cancellations: In the event of a weather cancellation, a notice will be posted in the comments on this page at least two hours before the ride, and the ride leader will not be at the ride start location. Cue sheets will not be provided, please print one if desired. Restrooms: there are restrooms at Gas Works Park (start/finish), optionally at Montlake Playfield Park (mile 3.4), and the Center for Wooden Boats (mile 7.6).
E-bikes: This is an e-bike-friendly ride for those with Class 1 or Class 2 e-bikes (Class 3 e-bikes are not allowed because we will be riding on some trails). See the Cascade Ebike FAQ’s link for more information. Be sure to have your battery/power pack fully charged before you arrive for the ride.
