Bicyclists should practice safe cycling and #recreateresponsibly as trails re-open in King County and across Washington.

As recreation lands across Washington start to re-open this week--including King County regional trails and parks, and trails on State Parks lands--Cascade is reminding people to “practice safe cycling” to avoid spreading or contracting COVID-19.

“We urge experienced bicyclists who are confident riding on streets to avoid the trails and parks for now, leaving them to less-experienced riders and minimizing trail overcrowding,” says Davíd Urbina, Cascade’s rides program manager.

Cascade has created several graphics to remind bicyclists to #RecreateResponsibly by taking necessary precautions.

Roll Solo -- or with people in your household only.

Be Flexible -- avoid busy trails, adjust your route, seek empty streets.

Ride Clean -- wear a mask, no spit or snot, and wash your mask, gloves, and sleeves.

Back Off -- six feet or more on and off the bike.

Do Your Duty -- at home, bathrooms are closed.

Pack Food -- and water, avoid store stops.

More detailed information can be found on Cascade’s COVID resources page here.

While recreation areas are beginning to re-open for day use, bike camping is not allowed. While this may change as the season progresses, one thing is certain: this year’s hiking, biking and outdoor recreation season will be different than in previous years.

Cascade will provide updates and guidance as conditions change, but we encourage users to “know before you go” to find out if trails at your destination are open, and to remain flexible in your planning so that trails and other destinations don’t become crowded.
