Press Release: Cascade Bicycle Club honors Foss High School student who helped raise more than $5,000 for the Major Taylor Project

SEATTLE, Wash. Dec. 19, 2017 - Cascade Bicycle Club today honored Foss High School student Greyson Monaghan-Bergson for his efforts to raise more than $5,000 in support of Cascade's Major Taylor Project (MTP).

Greyson was inspired to help out after a September 9 burglary left Cascade and MTP missing 31 bikes taken from a storage container at iDEA High School in Tacoma, Wash.  

Quick to act in support of his fellow students, Greyson set up a GoFundMe page that quickly amassed $5,225 dollars in support of MTP, all donated by students, families and community supporters. 

"Major Taylor Project has given me an opportunity to ride and have fun with friends and people my age," said Greyson. "I've seen friends and other students gain confidence through MTP, and I'm happy to be able to raise money in support of the program."

Since the stolen bikes were replaced by the Employees Community Fund of Boeing Puget Sound, Greyson's contribution will serve as much-needed program support that will allow MTP to continue its growth in 2018. The donation comes at a critical time of year-end giving for a program that has seen rapid growth over the last few years. In MTP after-school clubs, teens from diverse communities are empowered to establish healthy habits, build relationships, gain confidence and discover their ability to affect positive change, all through the lens of the bicycle. The program serves more than 500 students annually throughout south King County and Tacoma.

For his support, Greyson was given a limited edition Cascade-branded Ortlieb bag, a Season Pass certificate to all of Cascade's major rides and other Cascade items. Major Taylor Project Manager Rich Brown sees Greyson's efforts as a testament to what the program can do.

"I am so proud of his actions," said Rich. "He responded by taking the initiative to help out the program which is a reflection of the merit of our students."
