If you travel to or through the University of Washington campus, take note: the University of Washington Police Department (UWPD) is initiating "an education and enforcement project focused on crosswalk and stop sign behavior" at W Stevens Way NE this month.

According to their press release, UWPD will be reminding people traveling along Stevens Way of the rules of the road, including: "yielding to people on foot, stopping and yielding at stop signs, obeying posted speed limits and crossing the street predictably and attentively."

UWPD states, "it is very important that people on bikes and in cars remember to yield and use caution around people on foot – UW is a wonderful and busy walking environment."

UWPD will begin enforcement - i.e. writing tickets - on Monday, Oct. 27.

Our advice? Check your speed, follow traffic control devices and always give people walking the right of way.
